Blake Griffin, of the Los Angeles Clippers, is the favorite to win the All-Star slam dunk contest.
Los Angeles – Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers will join the All-Star slam dunk contest, according to the NBA.
Griffin has long been wanted by the fans to join the dunking competition as he has shown powerful slams in several games in the ongoing NBA regular season. Joining Griffin in the contest are JaVale McGee of the Washington Wizards, Serge Ibaka of the Oklahoma City Thunders and Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Griffin’s collection of slam dunks is already a popular hit in YouTube and he will get his chance to show it during the All-Star weekend. The Clippers rookie will also have the home court advantage and the crowd behind him as the event will be held at the Staples Center in LA on Feb.19.
Each participant of the slam dunk contest will get a personal coach. Griffin is partnered with Kenny Smith, Ibaka with teammate Kevin Durant, Jennings with Darry Dawkins and McGee with Chris Webber.
Coach wants Griffin in All-Star Game
Los Angeles Clippers’ head coach Vinny Del Negro believes that his priced rookie is more than just a good dunker and wants him to be in the main game of the All-Star weekend.
Del Negro said that Griffin’s stats meks him a good candidate for the All-Star game on Feb. 20 but also noted that there are other factors to be considered. Griffin, is already sure of getting the slot for the Rookie Challenge game but he might be requested to join the main game instead.
“Statistically, his numbers are there, but there are some other guys with good stats,” Del Negro said. “Wins and losses matter.
3 days ago, Griffin was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for the games played in December. He led all rookies in points per game with 23.0 ppg and in rebounding with 13.5 average per game.
Included in the main game of the All-Star or not, Griffin is already expected to put on a good show in the slam dunk contest where he is the crowd favorite and also on the rookie game as he is one of the top rookies of this season.
