Disney's latest movie 'Tangled'
Los Angeles – The animated movie ‘Tangled’ took over as the number one movie at the box office during the weekend, relegating the latest Harry Potter movie to second place.
‘Tangled’, a movie voiced-over by pop singer Mandy Moore, raked in $21.5 million in its second weekend according to studio reports Sunday. This brought the total earnings of the animated film to $96.5 million.
‘Tangled’ is based on the classic fairy tale about a child with a very long hair and is the latest animated film released by Disney.
‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows’, the final chapter of the Harry Potter series and the first of two parts, had a $16.7 million earnings during the weekend and a total of $244.2 million since it was released 3 weeks ago.
Though the Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest holidays for theaters, this year was considered a ‘bad weekend’ for the box office as overall revenues were down compared to the previous years, this is according to film site Hollywood.com
According to the website, the overall revenues were down by 11.5 percent compared to the Thanksgiving weekend last 2009.
Rounding out the top 5 movies of the weekend are ‘Burlesque’, which stars Christina Aguilera and Cher, ‘Unstoppable’, which is tied with Burlesque with an estimate revenue of $6.1 million during the weekend and stars Denzel Washington and ‘Love & Other Drugs’ with $5.7 million starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway.
