Memphis – The Grizzlies won their fourth straight home game while dealing the defending champions Lakers their third straight loss in a close game, 98-96.

The Lakers had the last posession and had a chance to win the game when Kobe Bryant passed the ball to Ron Artest for what could have been the game-winning three-pointer but the shot was blocked by Rudy Gay.

Mike Conley led the Grizzlies scoring a personal season-high 28 points, 10 in the fourth quarter, Rudy Gay had 14 points and Zach Randolph added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Memphis had a well balanced attack as 6 of thier players scored in double digits.

Kobe Bryant had a game-high 29 points while Pau Gasol had 15 points and 14 rebounds for the struggling Lakers which lost three straight games for the first time since March and since they acquired the services of Gasol from Memphis to team up with Bryant.

The game was tightly contested as there were several lead changes throughout the game. The Grizzlies took the half 51-49 and had their biggest lead during the fourth quarter when they were up by 13 points but near the end, the Lakers made their run only to fall to short.

Every time that the Lakers would come close in the final quarter, Conley answered back. He hit a jumper and a 3-pointer with less than 2 minutes left in the game as the Grizzlies kept their lead.

Though Bryant led all scorers, he only made 9-of-25 of his shots including 1-of-6 from beyond the 3-point line.
